Our dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and our dear mother’s sweetheart returned home to his Heavenly Father in the early hours of the morning of Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the age of 77 in his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He fought dementia for years, which was what ultimately took him from us.
He was born on November 6,1948 to Keith Robbins and Pieternella Van Tussenbroek Robbins. He graduated from South High School in 1967, where he played basketball and participated in track where he ran the hurdles and threw the shot put. Dad, being 6’7” and very athletic, would lead the basketball team out onto the floor for warmups with a slam dunk, and he always did the tip offs at every game. He was voted best looking legs on the team as well.
He attended the University of Utah before his mission and upon returning he went back to finish school. When he was a year away from graduating, our mom got really sick and needed many surgeries. He ended up quitting so that he could take care of her. Mom was Dad’s everything. He always prioritized Mom, his kids, and later all his grandkids and great grandkids. His wife and kids were what mattered most to him, and he showed it through his taking time to be with us and by teaching us the gospel of Jesus Christ, through his example and his actions. We knew he loved the Savior and our Heavenly Father.
Dad was a very smart man. He worked his whole career in IT and ran multi-million-dollar computer systems for many companies. He was never boastful or prideful of what he did. He was a quiet man and people who met him and got to know him would say he was a “Gentle Giant.” He was so tenderhearted and compassionate.
He and Mom loved watching Hallmark shows, movies and going shopping, especially at Christmas. He loved going out to eat especially when it was at his favorite authentic Italian restaurants. He loved spending time with all his kids, his grand kids and his great grand kids. They all have very fond memories of grandma/grams and grandpa/poppy always being there for them. They all loved their grandpa/poppy.
He served two and a half years in Italy as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had the opportunity to serve as a branch president during that time. He had such a love for the Italian people, the beautiful country, and the food. He immersed himself into the language and tradition’s so much so that his oldest daughter thought she was Italian and was so disappointed when she found out she was actually Dutch. On one occasion he was blessed by the Pope at a procession he was present at.
He had a passion for beautiful music, especially the music that brought the spirit of our Heavenly Father in our home. He learned to play the piano. His mom made sure he practiced and was studious in doing so. He loved playing the guitar and spent many road shows performing with our mom. It was a gift that us children will cherish. He held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but we know his very favorite was when he was able to be the primary pianist. He loved being with the children and playing so they could sing, and he was good at it.
He met our beautiful mom, Rebecca Ann Urry, and instantly fell in love with her. He met Mom at a church basketball game. After one of his games, mom and her friend rushed out and got in her car and ended up having a flat tire. He fixed her flat tire and rescued her! Their first kiss was on the basketball court before a game.
They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 17, 1971, for time and all eternity. She was his everything, in fact he fought so hard to stay because he did not want to leave his “Beautiful Sweetheart.” His children and grandchildren absolutely adored him, and each have many precious memories with him. He loved all his grand doggies, and we know he was met by our Rexy when he returned home to the other side.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Keith and Nellie Robbins, Leroy and Marcella Urry(in-laws), Brad Severson(brother-in-law), his two beautiful grand baby girls Briya and Marcella Gordon, Steve Urry(brother-in-law), Roger Urry(nephew) and Emily Urry(niece). He is survived by his wife Becky, and children, Chris Robbins, Jenny (Chris) Bergstrom, Matt (Kathy) Robbins, Nate (Jeannette) Robbins, and Gennesse (Trey) Gordon. His grandchildren, Todd (Chanel), Ethan (Kyla), Nick, Lauren, Alyssa, Laura, Lisa, Lizzie, Lexie, Isaac, Olivia, Bennett, Declan, Joel, Charles, and Gracen. Great grandchildren, Avery, Shirlyne, Oakley, Mila, Ryan, and Cy.
