Wendy Uttke

June 18, 1959 – March 20, 2020

Mrs. Wendy Uttke of North Salt Lake passed away peacefully surrounded by love after a long struggle with Cancer and Alzheimer’s. She fought a good fight, and we were so happy for every second she was with us until she left to be with her mother on March 20, 2020.

She was born in Bountiful to Joan and Robert Sorensen on June 18, 1959. She married Tom Uttke on Aug 27, 1994 in Salt Lake City.

Wendy had a flair for interior design and worked as a tile and stone representative in western Colorado, carrying heavy samples to many of the small towns. She enjoyed travel and made many good friends throughout the state. She loved the outdoors and came to be a good golfer. She played in several Ladies golf associations and won several couple’s tournaments with Tom. She was always a better putter than Tom.

Tom and Wendy were married for 26 short years.  But in that time, they made great companions, traveling frequently, playing golf, being part owners of a bowling alley, being involved in all Shane’s special needs activities and making every house they built together a home.  Tom was an amazing husband to her, taking care of her through both of her brutal illnesses that ultimately took her from us too soon.

Her son, Shane was the center of her life. She would always rush home to make sure Shane was well cared for. Wendy loved music and dancing and Shane inherited his love for dancing from her. Summertime was always filled with outdoor concerts and dancing. Shane was always the first one to hit the dance floor, Wendy right behind. Wendy loved to laugh, and we loved to hear her laugh.

Her daughter, Shiloh would join in when Wendy was in town visiting. Wendy’s Mom had the best backyard for family gatherings. Shiloh would bring the kids for backyard fun and join Wendy at the Bountiful concerts in the park when we visited Utah, one time taking the stage in Wendover with the Beach Boys to play lead guitar.

Before her illnesses, Wendy was a vibrant woman living life to the fullest. Wendy loved her family very much and visited Utah quite often. Helping her Mom plan and cook for family gatherings and watching her grandchildren grow up delighted Wendy.  She liked to do arts and crafts and play board games with her children and grandchildren. She was a great cook and always focused on healthy meals for her family, but would throw in the occasional hot dog, which she loved.

Wendy liked to garden and planted flowers all around her home. The family asks that you plant a flower for Wendy in your yard.

Wendy is survived by Tom, her son Shane, daughter Shiloh (Steve), grandson Jaycee, and granddaughter Myah, her sister Halene (Randy), nephew Justin, grand Nephew Hagen, grand Niece Khloe

Due to the current situation, there will be a private funeral for family members this week. A celebration is planned on her upcoming 61st birthday: June 18 (More on that later)
