Shirley Jane Rhodes Blanch

August 9, 1921 ~ April 17, 2015

Shirley Jane Rhodes Blanch “Grandma Shirley” passed away quietly in the early morning hours of Friday, April 17, 2015 at the age of 93. She was born on August 9, 1921 to George and Maud Rhodes in Ogden, Utah.  Shirley grew up in Milton, Utah, graduating from Milton High School.

She married Albert Roy Blanch in June of 1941.  After moving around as a young couple to Florida because of the War, the couple settled in West Weber.  She was a devoted mother, wonderful cook (her pies were heavenly), a talented seamstress, and very active in Primary and the LDS Church.

Roy received a promotion which resulted in relocation.  The family moved to San Rafael, California in 1962.

Shirley lived life to the fullest.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, square dancing, golf, travel, visiting family, friends, and most of all in visiting her grandchildren in Ogden, Utah and Denver, Colorado.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Diane Batliner; her son, Robert Blanch, four grandchildren, Thad Blanch, Susan Kim, Aimee Batliner-Gillette, Adam Batliner, Eric Batliner; and four great-grandchildren, Owen, Oliver, Ellie, and Beckett.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Roy Blanch; her son, Kurt Blanch; her brother, Bud Rhodes; and her second husband, Frank Holsinger.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the West Weber Cemetery, 4600 West 1000 North. Utah services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
