Rodger Meek Moore

September 23, 1930 ~ February 6, 2017

Rodger Meek Moore of Arlington, Virginia, arrived at his heavenly home on February 6, 2017. He was born on September 23, 1930, in Lewiston, Utah, the son of William A. and Virginia Meek Moore.

His family moved to Ogden in 1932 and Rodger graduated from Ogden High School, Weber College, and the University of Utah. He excelled in debating and extemporaneous speaking, winning many trophies for his schools.

Rodger served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of two purple hearts. He was assigned to the 14th Regiment Heavy Mortar Company that was attached to the Turkish Army Brigade.

After returning from the Service, he earned a Law Degree from the University of Utah and a Master of Law Degree from George Washington University.

Arlington, Virginia, has been his home for the past 60 years. He was employed by the U.S. Military Court of Appeals and retired as a trial attorney for the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

During his youth he enjoyed playing tennis, hiking Utah’s mountains, and skiing “the greatest snow on Earth.” He has always been an avid reader. Upon retirement he enjoyed fishing on Lake Ontario and deep-sea fishing off the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  He also enjoyed visiting with his friends at Starbucks.

Rodger was generous with his time and resources with everyone. His nieces and nephews of three generations remember the love, encouragement, and gifts that he so freely gave.

Rodger is survived by his two sisters, Virginia M. Benson and Gloria M. (Jerry) Lamph, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Douglas M. Moore; nephew, D. Eric Moore; great-niece, Emma Moore.

Rodger’s family wish to thank Lou and Frank Nebeker and their family for the friendship and care they extended to our brother and uncle.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Burch Creek 4th Ward, 4955 Adams Ave, South Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., South Ogden, Utah.
