Paul D. Thurgood

December 26, 1932- June 9, 2019

Paul D. Thurgood of Hooper, UT, passed away, at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving family. He was the fourth child of Don J. and Lula M. Thurgood’s five children (all preceded him in death).

He graduated from Davis High School in 1951. Married Mary Reed in the Salt Lake Temple and later married Joanne Garner. One of Dad’s favorite callings was being an Ordinance worker in the Temple with Joanne.

Hard work is synonymous to Paul D. Thurgood, many times in his life he had three jobs. He was an electrician for the Southern Pacific Railroad, shod horses, laid carpet, and took any odd jobs that came his way.

He has left a legacy of rodeoing to our family. Family members have won numerous buckles, saddles and even a truck and live-in horse trailer. Hot summer nights and weekends were filled with boating, skiing and tubing at Willard Bay and occasional vacations to Lake Powell and Pinedale. Snowmobiling lasted as long as the snow did, if it wasn’t in the field behind our house we would go and find it. Monte Cristo was a favorite place to go. Dad showed us how to hunt and fish. He taught us to have a love for life. His legacy lives on in all of us.

Dad has been our biggest supporter, fan and enthusiast. He taught us to serve others, to do our best, to be independent, and most important of all, that we could do anything if we put our minds to it.

Dad has influenced many people with his love of horses and outdoor activities, not only his four daughters Janet Price, Jean (Steve) Dixon, Joan (Kelly) Wangsgard, Jill Ross; five step-children LeeAnn Paulsen, Steven C (Toni) Garner, David J Garner, Mark R (Tara) Garner, and Danna (Mike) Russell; his 22 grandchildren; his 34 great-grandchildren and now his four and 1/2 great- great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Lakeview Stake Center, 5375 South 5900 West, Hooper. The family will meet with friends Wednesday, June 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
