Patricia Joan Herbert Smelser

1931-2014

Centerville, Utah - On Monday, December 29, 2014, our loving wife and mother, Patricia Joan Herbert Smelser, passed away surrounded by her loved ones.  Pat was born on November 26, 1931, in Emporia, Kansas, on Thanksgiving Day to Lloyd Emerson Herbert and Clara Mildred Dody Herbert.  She was a graduate of Emporia High School and attended Emporia State University.  In 1950 she married her high school sweetheart William (Bill) Lloyd Smelser.  Together they raised four lovely children: Shana (Raymond) Wahl, Megin Smelser, William P. (Annette) Smelser and Stephanie Conti.  Also surviving are her sister, Donna Naylor, (Emporia, Kansas), seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Pat’s life passion was her family.  She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, inner beauty and amazing artistic talents. She was a loving wife, a compassionate and nurturing mother, a beautiful grandmother and a best friend to many. She was a faithful member of the Bountiful First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Lindquist’s Bountiful  Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may visit family Friday, January 2, between 6 to 8 pm and Saturday, January 3, between 12:30 and 1:30 pm prior to services.  A celebration of her life at the Bountiful First Baptist Church will follow graveside services.

The family is thankful for the compassionate care of Dr. Joseph D. Jensen, Lakeview Hospital and the gentle care given by Belinda with Inspiration Hospice.  The outpouring of love from family, friends and neighbors helped ease her passing and gave the family comfort.
