Max Petersen

March 3, 1929 — October 7, 2019

Max Dean Petersen, 90 years young, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Layton, Utah.

He was born March 3, 1929 the son of James Ole and Christiana Amelia Hansen Petersen in Rupert, Idaho.  Max grew up in the time of the great depression, horses and hay derricks and wagons.  Seeing great changes in our society, he always stood for high moral values, service to God, Country, Community and Service to others.

Max volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953.

He married Lucy Marie Phillips.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple for time and all eternity on July 19, 1954.

Max received a Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Public Administration.  He worked in Mt. Clemens, Michigan as an Urban Renewal Director.  He was the Chamber of Commerce Director of Muskegon Area Development Council, and a Paralegal with Rulon T. Burton and Associates throughout his career.

Max was very active in leadership for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served a mission in Norway from 1948 to 1950, riding his bicycle the length of the country just after WWII, sometimes sleeping in people’s barns and teaching on street corners.  He also served in many church positions, Branch President, Bishop, Seminary Teacher, numerous teaching positions and sang in his church choir faithfully for over 50 years.

Max was an avid reader and devoured books. He was an awesome story teller. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and often took walks with them.

Surviving are his children, Kim Veron (Elizabeth “Liz”), Chris Addell (Mari-Beth),  Karen Marie (Philip) Gladstone, Vicky Lynn (Phillip) Allen, Greg Dean (Rebecca), Rena Jane (Troy) Child, Linette (Eric) Hall,  Eric Keil (Trudi), Kyleen Colet (Bryan) Gonzales, 30 grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Marie Petersen; daughter, Lucy Caroline Petersen; siblings, Jennie Amelia, Alma Reid, Mabel Tuila, Don Carlos, Arnol, David O, Keith LaVar, and Cleone Petersen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
