1928-2020

Our beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all, Marcella Jensen Hume passed away peacefully from natural causes February 25, 2020 at the age of 91 years old in her home in Syracuse, Utah.

Marcella was born June 30, 1928 in Bingham, Utah, the daughter of Clarence Lowell Jensen and Rhoda Lapreal Brown in the Bingham Hospital. Rhoda Lapreal Brown died in 1936 and Clarence married Elda Lucille Blackburn in 1937.  Her family moved to Springville, Utah where she graduated from Springville High School. She later attended college.

Marcella worked for Flying J Oil Company in Brigham City, Utah for 15 years and was treasurer of the company in its beginning and worked for them until her retirement in 1980.  Marcella loved to do crafts and had a ceramics shop in her home in Brigham City. She also loved to sew, crochet, quilt, reupholster furniture, put puzzles together, and make homemade chocolates.

Marcella was first married to Dale Tuttle of Springville Utah in 1946 and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had a son Richard Dale Tuttle who was born June 22, 1949. Dale Tuttle died January 17, 1949 following an automobile accident after his return from the US Navy.

In September 1952, Marcella married Donald Earl Hume also of Springville, Utah after his return from the US Navy and the family moved to Logan, Utah where Donald later graduated from Utah State University. Following his graduation, they moved to California where he worked for the Naval Ordinance Test Station. They had two additional children, Kathleen Hume born in December 12, 1953 and Donald Gary Hume born May 31, 1955.

The family moved to Brigham City, Utah in 1963 where Donald began his career as an engineer and program manager at Thiokol Chemical Corporation and remained there until 1998.  On February 23, 1967, Donald, Marcella and their children were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple. Marcella served in many church callings as a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Her family left Brigham City in 1998 and moved to Syracuse Utah. There they built a home with a barn and pastures for their Arabian horses.

Surviving are her sons, Richard and Gary along with Richard’s wife Barbara, their son Brian and daughter-in-law Natalie and their two daughters Edie and Romy and daughter Michelle  and son-in-law Brian and their two sons Gavin and Garret.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, both husbands, daughter Kathleen, and granddaughter Andrea Tuttle.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 2, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Syracuse City Cemetery. Family may visit at 1:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
