Lyman Smith Wiser

October 5, 1921 ~ December 4, 2016

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Lyman Smith Wiser, on December 4, 2016. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family.

Born on October 5, 1921 in Logan, UT, to Myron Cunningham and Zelma Smith Wiser, he was raised on a dairy farm in Lewiston, UT, attended North Cache High, and received his B.S. in business from the University of Utah.

He served in the LDS East Central States Mission from 1942 to 1944 and upon returning home, met, and married the love of his life, Ramona Palmer, on November 24, 1944.  He was immediately drafted into the US Army and sent to the Philippines, where he fought on the frontlines in the battle of Luzon.  He was proud of his military service, but always expressed gratitude and comfort that, while he was called to fight against the Japanese people, his son was called to serve them as a missionary.

Lyman was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed his many callings including Stake Missionary, Ward and financial clerk, High Priest Group Leader, and home teacher.  He and his wife especially enjoyed their time as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple from 1995 to 2008.

He was a hard worker all his life and held positions at Deseret Book, Burroughs Corp, and as a general contractor for Mountair Homes.  He loved Arabian horses.

Lyman will be remembered for his warm and witty sense of humor, his cowboy hat and boots, and his friendly waves to all passersby.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, his son, Hal (Kim); six grandchildren, brothers, Lawrence and Wallace; and his sister, Lois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest son, Kevin, brothers, Philip and Theron; and sister, Edna.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Access Homecare and Hospice, and Right at Home for their wonderful and loving care.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Old Post Ward Chapel, 5191 Old Post Road, Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Preston City Cemetery at 3 pm., Preston, Idaho.
