Leon J. McFarland

July 23, 1929 – July 8, 2017

Dad passed away on July 8, 2017 with his family by his side.   He was born in West Weber, Utah to Estella Adelaide Michelson and James Leroy McFarland.  He married M. Mae Malan on October 25, 1950 in Ogden, Utah.  They were sealed together in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1964.  Together Leon and Mae had two sons: Gary and David.

Dad owned his own excavating business known as McFarland Trenching.  He and mom later owned Petland, first in Layton and then in Roy.  After they retired Dad started an apple orchard.  He was a farmer at heart and loved caring for his trees.  Dad’s hobbies included raising birds and fish.  He also loved fishing, hunting and camping.

Dad was always there when we needed him.  He was very patient, gentle and loving in everything he did.  He had a beautiful smile and a wonderful sense of humor.

Dad is survived by his two sons: Gary (Karen) and David.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great, great grandsons.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Special thanks to McKay Dee Hospital and Anna-Marie at Intermountain Hospice for their loving care and support during his last hours.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
