Jeffrey Thomas Klein, born December 11, 1979, died on November 20, 2019.

Jeff was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Layton, Utah. He attended North Layton Jr. High and Northridge High School where he began his quest for knowledge. He attended Utah State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular and cellular biology. There he excelled as a student and was recognized as a National Merit Scholar. He also learned to play drums, a passion he carried throughout his life.  Jeff completed his B.S. in 2002 and continued his education at Duke University at Durham, North Carolina, completing a Doctor of Philosophy in neurobiology in 2010 and contributing to the current understanding of the links between social behavior and brain function. He continued his work as a post doctorate scholar at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. Jeff will be remembered not only through his contributions to science, but also for the enduring impression he left on those who knew him.

Jeff is survived by his cherished son “Avi,” Avinash Dasgupta-Klein, who brought light to Jeff’s soul and joy to his heart. There is no end to the love that Jeff held for Avi. Jeff is survived by his parents, Thomas and Katharine “Taffy” Klein of Layton, Utah, his sisters, Amanda Klein Johnson of Farmington, Utah, and Kimberly Jean Klein, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Avi’s mother, Naina Dasgupta, of Adelaide, Australia. Jeff’s memory will be held dear by his niece and three nephews, his aunts, uncles, and cousins, his in-laws, and numerous colleagues, band mates, and friends.

Funeral mass will be held Friday, December 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton, Utah.  Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate mass with Tom and Taffy Klein.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton.
