Janice McBride

February 12, 1932 — April 4, 2021

Janice McBride

Janice Carol Wilson McBride, our beloved mother, sister, grandma and friend, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2021.

Janice was born in Bountiful, Utah on February 12, 1932, to Ellis and Florence Wilson. She grew up in Centerville, Utah, in a love-filled home and remained best friends with her siblings throughout their lives. Janice’s childhood stories told of a simple, yet beautiful life - sitting around the radio as a family, working and playing alongside her brothers and sisters, learning to grow and preserve fruits and vegetables and caring for their animals – including her favorite rooster, named picker-ar-ar-ar.

Janice graduated from Davis High School and went on to attend BYU. She loved her time at BYU and while there, met her future husband, Kenneth McBride. They married in the Salt Lake Temple, were married for 62 years and raised 6 children together. Once life at home slowed down, Janice returned to her education and graduated from Westminster College. She went on to teach 2nd grade for 16 years.

Janice was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a testimony of her Savior and her faith brought her comfort throughout her life. Janice and Kenneth served a mission together in St. George, Utah, working at the visitor’s center and giving tours of historical church sites. She also loved her time serving in the temple.

Janice was a talented seamstress and used her skills to both earn money and make clothes for her children. She was an adventurous cook, loved trying new recipes and made the best dinner rolls. Janice enjoyed quilting, genealogy, was an avid reader and grew beautiful African Violets. Music was also a big part of Janice’s life. She played the piano and had a lovely singing voice - singing around the house while she cooked and cleaned.

Family was everything to Janice. She enjoyed a lifetime of Sunday evenings with her parents and siblings and as her own family grew, nothing made her happier than having her own children and grandchildren fill her home with laughter. Janice was a go-getter and her daughters joked that she could run circles around them, well into her 80’s. When she was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 88, she continued to walk her sweet dog, Ellie, rain or shine.

Janice will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her children who knew they could count on her for support and a patient, listening ear. She was a wonderful mother and friend.

Janice is survived by her sister Donna Jolley, her children, Kathy Mooney (Rob), Scott McBride (Brooke), Eric McBride, Karen Barlow, Carol Jones (Craig), Colleen Keddington (Mike), 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
