Obituary

Janet Rasmussen Newton 1943 – 2021 North Salt Lake, UT

On January 10, 2021 Janet Rasmussen Newton passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. The oldest of three siblings, Janet was born November 13, 1943 in Salt Lake City, UT to Glen and Neoma (Hidalgo) Rasmussen. She grew up in Rose Park and graduated from West High School in 1962. Married to Pete DeLeyser, later divorced, they had two children. Friends introduced Janet to her future husband, Roger Newton, whom she married on April 19, 1969 and they had two children. Janet was blessed with five grandchildren who were her world. Janet had countless friends who she enjoyed spending time with. Her spunky spirit and fun personality will be missed by us all.

Preceded in death by her parents, sister Jeraldine and oldest son Rick. Janet is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roger, sons Pete (Melissa), Mike (Treena) and daughter Debby (Greg). Also survived by her sister, Glenda, daughter-in-law, Lori, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Quality Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

Does doubt within him rise and grow,

             As he spins his cocoon?

Is this the end of all he knows?

            Has darkness come too soon?

Does he cry out to God in fear

Of losing all he holds most dear?

“Lord, why must I become as dust,

And leave the world I love and trust?

Ah, my Creator, now I see:

It’s this cocoon which sets me free!”
