Jack A Hill

Syracuse, Utah – On Sunday morning, January 10th, 2021, Jack A Hill passed away at home surrounded by his close family.

Jack was born on December 3, 1950 in Payson, Utah to Darrell B Hill and Evelyn (Peterson) Hill. He was the third of six children. With his family, he later moved to Roy, Utah and while in High School met his future wife, Roma Jean Westenskow. Jack and Roma were married on September 8th, 1967, and were later blessed with three children: Angie, Kristy, and Jared.

Jack started his married life as a car mechanic, after several successful jobs with great employers, Jack landed his dream job as the Fixed Operations Manager at Murdock Chevrolet in Woods Cross, Utah. He managed this division for almost 30 years and loved working with Kent, KO, and Blake Murdock (and many others) ...all of whom he considered mentors and friends. After an early age diagnosis of Alzheimers, Jack could no longer perform his management duties. A very loving Murdock Family continued to employ him at various tasks until he was no longer able to work. Our family acknowledges the kindness and generosity shown to Jack and Roma in so many ways.

Jack loved the Lord. He spoke many times of finding and following His path. He loved serving his fellow brothers and sisters in the church and was willing to do any task in whatever calling he was given.

Jack was a kind friend to all and was happiest when he was serving and making others happy as well. It was known that from his first waking moment, he looked for ways to share kindness and love with his family and friends. When a person was with Jack Hill, that person was in good and safe company.

Above any accomplishment in life, his greatest focus and love was his family. His ways emulated the teachings of the Master in love and kindness. He devoted heart, mind and soul to his wife, children, sons- in-law and grandchildren. Nothing was ever more important than giving a needed hug, advice, compliment, or pep talk on the “blue bird of happiness.” No grandchild’s ball game or dance event was ever too long or too far away to be missed by him. Jack loved running marathons with his son Jared, teaching his grandchildren to water and snow ski and was often seen cooking delicious Dutch oven meals at the Boat Club and in Lake Powell. Being with Grandpa Jack meant being noticed and served.

In the last few years of Jack’s life, he suffered from the awful effects of this terrible disease.

His wife and girlfriend, Roma, tended to his every need. When in past years he served her, that service she most willingly gave back to him in ways that only two people in love can give and understand. To ever think or say, “Jack without Roma” is to say, “salt without pepper.” Together they worked well. Now, separated for a time, there will be a wobble in the family wheel. But in faith, they believe that they will be again as one, with those they love, to enjoy the blessing of eternity together. That is what Jack wanted. That is what Jack worked for. That is who Jack was and still is.

Jack is survived by his wife Roma, his children: Angie (Dean) Garrett, Syracuse; Kristy (Brandon) Geary, Syracuse; Jared Hill (Tom Hudson), Chicago, Illinois, 7 grandchildren and soon to be 9 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his two brothers, Gene (Melinda) Hill, Dick (Linda) Hill and two sisters, Sherlyn Clark, Lorene (Stephen) Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Brenda Maylin.
