Ivan C. Howell, 98, passed away on August 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Leslie Bird and Edna Collette Howell in Pauline, Idaho on April 7, 1919. He had one brother, Claude (Marjorie) Howell, and two sisters, Maude (Rulon) Stuart and Beatrice (Owen) Merrill.

He married Maggie Elda Talbot on November 16, 1951. They were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple on September 11, 1997. They have two daughters, Debbie (Craig) Farrimond and Lorrie (Rick) Frazier.

Ivan served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Cullman (APA-78) during World War II. The Cullman was an attack transport and after transporting troops during the war, participated in Operation Magic Carpet, bringing returning servicemen home to the United States. After serving his country, Ivan worked as a truck driver in Downey, Idaho and for Weber School District.

He was always known to his daughters as “Daddy” because of the amazing father that he was. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when he was hunting, fishing or vacationing with family. He had an amazing love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved their Papa Ivan.

As a family we have been blessed to have an example of kindness, compassion, honesty and hard work. He never said an unkind word and was there to help whenever possible.

Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maggie, and daughter, Lorrie, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, daughter, Debbie, and son-in-law, Craig Farrimond.
