Iliene Lucile Myers Fisher

1929 ~ 2021

Iliene Lucile Myers Fisher, 92, passed away September 18, 2021 at her residence in Legacy House Assisted Living in Farmington, Utah. She was and is an amazing women/mother/grandmother. She returned to her Heavenly home of natural causes due to age, peacefully and surrounded by family.

Iliene was born on June 25, 1929 in Boise, Idaho to Lucile Sabin and Marcus Lemuel Myers. She was blessed to be born, the second of seven children, into an eternal family that included two brothers and five sisters. She grew up in South Boise, Idaho, which she loved, and attended Boise High School. Following high school in the fall of 1947, Iliene attended BYU and majored in Home Economics. Iliene graduated from BYU in the spring of 1951 but needed to stay another semester to complete her teaching certificate.  This is when she dated and married the love of her life, Claire J Fisher. They were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 21, 1951.  Iliene stayed in Provo with her husband while he finished his teaching degree and completed his Air Force ROTC. During this time in Provo, they were blessed with two children, Cathy Jan and Kent Jay.

In the spring of 1955, Claire started his flight training school with the US Air Force at Lackland Air Base, which required Iliene to move her small family to San Antonio Texas. Iliene and Claire were blessed once again in Texas to have another daughter, Teresa. After a short stay in Texas, Iliene again needed to move her young family to Enid Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma, Iliene was blessed to add another son, Albert Lee, to their small and growing family. At this point, Iliene and Claire knew that they did not want to move their family wherever the Air Force sent them, so Claire retired from the Air Force after his commitment was completed. They moved to Ogden, Utah where they continued their family with adding two daughters, Diana and Julie. Iliene and Claire were able to build a new home on Hislop Dr in Ogden, Utah where they lived and raised their family.

Iliene taught home economics at Highland Jr High School while her children attended school. This job allowed her to be home when her children returned home from school.  She was an excellent cook and loved to cook for her family. Iliene learned at a very young age how to be an accomplished seamstress. This allowed her to sew her own clothes starting in high school.  She would also use her sewing skills to make clothes for her children. She never sat idly as she was always doing needle work or crocheting items for her children or baby blankets for her grandchildren.  She also loved to read and bottle/can fruits and vegetables for her own family and would always share the fruits of her labors.

Iliene has been a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she has served multiple callings in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society.  In 1988, Claire and Iliene were called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to labor in Sierra Leone, West Africa. They were one of two couple missionaries to open this area for future missionary work. Iliene was very excited to learn that a temple was approved to be built in Sierra Leone. Claire and Iliene also served many years as ushers at The Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Her greatest joy in life was her husband, children and grandchildren, because family meant everything to her. Iliene loved the Lord. Her testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, was evident by her example of love and service to others and her family throughout her life.

Iliene is survived by her children, Cathy Jan (Brad) Montierth, Kent Jay (Marilyn) Fisher, Teresa (Joel) Dickson, Albert Lee (Kara) Fisher, Diana (Dennis) Maisey, and Julie (Kenneth) Chugg. She is loved by her 25 grandchildren and 81 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Violate Glenna Lauritzen; brother, Leon A Myers; sister, LaVarna Hochstrasser; sister, Neva Rae Maughan; and sister, Jeanne Renae Snyder. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claire J Fisher; her parents, Marcus and Lucile Myers; one brother, Norville Marcus Myers; and one great-grandson, Beckham Rex Sulser.
