SOUTH OGDEN a€" Our loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Friend, Eugene (Gene) Henry Bateman, passed away October 10, 2011 at McKay Dee Hospital.

Gene was born May 24, 1925 to Frederick Henry (Ted) Jr. and Hannah Arlean Taylor Bateman.

He married his loving eternal companion LaVon Hampson, June 14, 1943 at midnight in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised and supported five children in all their activities. LaVon passed away suddenly, February 21, 2002.

Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the SS Joplin Victory. He returned home in 1945 and worked as a Construction Supervisor for Ensil Hampson Construction (his Father-in-law). He remodeled and built many homes and businesses in Weber and Davis Counties. He worked in the construction business for 22 years. In 1966, he started working at Cream O'' Weber Dairy in the maintenance department. He became maintenance supervisor and created a supply room that helped many other dairies. He retired in 1989 after 23 years of service.

He was the first President of the Cream O'' Weber Credit Union, President of Manor Lands Water District for 30 years, and a member of the South Ogden City Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He had been a member of "The Men of Song" for 24 years.

Gene was the first Councilor in the South Ogden 65th Ward when it was organized in March of 1962. He has held the position of Young Mens President, served as a councilor in the Sunday School, was a dance instructor in the MIA (Mutual Improvement Association), Elders Quorum President, and in the High Priest Group Leadership.

He enjoyed working with wood, and built an authentic Mormon Handcart replica, Cedar Chests for 3 daughters, rocking horses for each of his grandchildren, many whirlygigs and clocks, plus built his own home (1948), drew the plans for and built his son''s home on 42nd Street, plus his own cabin in the Uinta Mountains (Manor Lands).

Dad, you helped us each receive a testimony of the gospel and an understanding of the hereafter. We appreciate your respect for our Country and your patriotism and teaching it to us.

Gene is survived by his children and their spouses: C. Diane (Jerry) Baxter, South Ogden; Cheryl (Brad) Smith, Stockton, CA; Bonnie (Jim) Tenney, Nampa, ID; Don (Becky) Bateman, South Ogden; and Kathy (Steven) Palmer, South Ogden, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren with two expected in January and April, his sister Annabell (Bateman) Pippitt, Twin Falls, ID; and three sisters-in-law Rosie Hampson, Irene Butler, and Gaylene Creager.

He was preceded in death by his wife LaVon, his parents and brother Fred Taylor Bateman.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where military honors will be accorded.

Dad we appreciate the wonderful example that you gave to all of us, and the unconditional love and kindness you shared with us. You have set such a wonderful example for all of your descendants. You will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
