Dorothy Taylor McKenzie

Age 92

Dorothy Aileen Taylor McKenzie, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully Saturday, January 23, 2021 and returned to her heavenly home.

Dorothy was born November 8, 1928 to George Leland and Vera Pearl Parry Taylor.  She grew up in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ogden High School in 1946.

Dorothy married Richard George McKenzie on January 10, 1947 and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 30, 1955.  She loved being a wife and mother and she took great pleasure in making her home warm and inviting for her family, friends, and other loved ones.  She loved making crafts of many varieties and she loved to give those craft projects to others.  She also loved to dance and she frequently spoke of her tap-dancing days when she was young, along with the dancing she loved to do with her husband.  Dorothy’s greatest love was to care for and fuss over her husband, children, and grandchildren and they loved it too.  She was a marvelous cook and no one ever left her house hungry.

Dorothy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served faithfully in a variety of callings within the Church throughout her adult life.  She served a full-time mission with her husband to Scotland in 1995 and they also served as missionaries at Welfare Square and as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple.  Her faith was bright and her life was exemplary to all who knew her.  She had the heart of a servant and she loved to care for those around her.

Dorothy is the beloved mother to Karen Murphy, Peggy Meeks, Debbie (John) Benich, David McKenzie, and Amy (James) Taylor.  She was also grandmother to 18 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren whom she loved dearly and whose lives she blessed abundantly.  She is greatly loved by her family and will be deeply missed for years to come.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard McKenzie, her father George Taylor, her mother Vera Taylor, her brother Jimmy Taylor, her sister Donna Benzley, her father in-law George McKenzie, her mother in-law Anna McKenzie, her grandson Richie McKenzie, and her granddaughter Jennifer Lee.  We are grateful to know she is in their loving arms.
