Dennis Bradley Liggett

August 2, 1946 ~ January 4, 2019

Dennis Bradley Liggett passed away on January 4, 2019 while on his 50th wedding anniversary trip. He spent his last day seeing the sights of Southern California, attending the temple and enjoying the company of his eternal companion, Muriel. Dennis nearly died after heart surgery last March. He has spent the months since enjoying and savoring his blessings and favorite things to do.

Dennis was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 2, 1946, to Donald Glamoure and Lena Belle Hollenbaugh Liggett. His father was in the Air Force and the family moved many times. This is where Dennis’ love for adventure and travel began. He has been to all 50 states, lived in Japan and Germany, and visited many countries on five continents.

Dennis valued education. He graduated from Beech Grove High School in Indiana, received his   bachelor’s from BYU, master’s from the University of Alaska; and at age 46, earned his Juris Doctorate from Willamette University in Oregon. His wife and children followed his example in their own pursuit of higher education.

While at BYU, he met his sweetheart Muriel Ann Rollins; they married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 20, 1968. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the military.  His dad died while on active duty when Dennis was 12 years old.  Dennis loved his country, serving 27 years on active duty and in the reserves, retiring as an Army Lieutenant Colonel. He took every chance to salute the flag—even when passing by in a car.  He was delighted with his recent surprise birthday present of a 25-foot flagpole in his front yard.

After active duty military service, he and his family lived for many years in Roy, Utah, then moved to Salem, Oregon, where Dennis owned his own private law practice for over 25 years.  He and Muriel returned to Utah several years ago, settling in Pleasant View.

As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dennis demonstrated his love for others and devotion to the Lord by serving two full-time missions (first at age 19 in NW States and second as a senior missionary with his wife in Munich, Germany), ministering in many Church and Priesthood callings, and engaging in temple service where he found great joy.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Muriel; children, Annette (James) Cumins, Ogden, UT; Matthew (Cami) Liggett, Eagle Mountain, UT; Valerie Liggett, Taylorsville, UT; Natalie Liggett, Bountiful, UT; Bradley (Kyra) Liggett, San Luis Obispo, CA; ten grandchildren; and siblings, Debra (William) Copas, Spanish Fork, UT and David (Cindy) Liggett, Centennial, CO.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Dawn Liggett; his parents; and his brother, Franklin Douglas Liggett.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 18th Ward Chapel, 1650 N 400 W, Harrisville, UT. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd, and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Roy City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humanitarian Aid Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
