Cindy Asay

September 7, 1957 — December 17, 2021

Cindy Theurer Asay, our loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away in the hospital in Murray, Utah on Friday, December 17, 2021 with loved ones by her side.

She was born in American Fork, Utah on September 7, 1957 to Cheri Laurel Peterson Theurer and Clark Brent Theurer (who was serving in the Korean War). Her family moved to Virginia and later to Tucson, Arizona where Cindy lived with her parents and 3 brothers until she left for college. Cindy loved adventure. Even at a very young age she would take her rocking chair and put it on the bed because rocking was just not enough.

Cindy loved nature. She loved going to her grandfather’s house each summer and driving the tractor. She always had flowers in her house and her garden. She loved butterflies and hummingbirds. She would give starts of her grandmother’s famous hibiscus plant to friends and neighbors who would always think of her when these amazing flowers bloomed. She was a cheerleader in Jr. High school. She was devastated when they found she had scoliosis and had to wear a back brace not allowing her to continue cheerleading in high school. She loved seminary and learning. She graduated in 1975 from High School and Seminary. She graduated from Ricks College (BYU-I), with an Associate Degree and from BYU in 1980 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

She was a great example of someone who dealt with a lot of physical pain. She would keep her spirits up by sharing with others her tender mercies (miracles) that she would see as she dealt with all the pain and send pictures of her flowers. She had a great love and testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many callings throughout her life. She was always thinking of others. Her spirit and laugh were infectious. Her greatest desire was to be a mother and raise her children, which she accomplished.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years Daren Richie Asay, two daughters Julie and Lisa, her son-in-law David Traver, her mother Cheri, and father Brent, and her three brothers Mike, Jeff, and Alan.
