Cheryl Theresa Groesch Yoggerst

Cheryl Theresa Groesch Yoggerst passed away peacefully in her home on October 1, 2021. We will deeply miss our beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and biggest fan.

Cheryl was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1944 to Robert and Marie Groesch. She graduated from the Ursuline Academy in 1966. She was married to Denis Yoggerst, also of Springfield, in 1967.

Cheryl never met a stranger and had a talent for striking up conversation and instantly connecting with people. As a proud Air Force wife for more than 20 years, her charisma served her well as she was stationed in numerous locations around the world. She often reminisced of her time in South Bend, Indiana where her passion for Notre Dame football took root and continued throughout her life. She and Denis settled in Ogden, Utah in 1984.

She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Parish. As a devout volunteer throughout her life, she served several organizations to include many years with the Good Samaritans. She loved to be around children and spent countless hours helping with lunch preparations at St. Joseph Elementary School.

She leaves behind her best friend and husband of 54 years, Denis. Cheryl’s calling and greatest joy in life was that of being a mother and nana. She had three children, Stephanie, Erik (Yira) and Denise (Brandon) and seven grandchildren that loved her deeply, Aiden, Jarett, Liam, Yira, Leah, Alexa and Adriana.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Parish, 1100 East 5550 South. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. A celebration of life gathering will take place at the Social Hall after the mass. A private family burial will be held at Camp Butler in Springfield, Illinois at a later date.
