Byron "Bud" Rex Matthews Byron Rex Matthews, age 93, died peacefully December 13, 2013 at his daughter’s home in Payson, Utah. Bud was born June 21, 1920, in Evanston, Wyoming, son of Roland James and Elsie Gulliver Matthews. He married Helen V. Brown in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1939 and together they raised six children. They divorced after 39 years. In 1982 he married Dimple E. Brown Reddish who was the mother of eight children. Dimple passed away in 2010 and he missed her dearly. "I’m horse and buggy," Bud would say. He worked ranches from age 15 until 1979 when he moved to Ogden, Utah. Although ranching was his first love, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for many years. He was a member of the police force in Evanston, enjoyed serving the public and completed the FBI Academy with high marks. He held various callings in the LDS church including three times as Young Men’s President. He had an extensive knowledge and love of plants and animals and was a kind and gifted professional horse trainer. Bud often shared his vocal and painting talents as well as his building and landscaping skills with family, friends and the community. He is survived by six children: Terry (Dick) Simmons of Payson, Utah; Linda Matthews of Payson, Utah; Bob (Loresta) Matthews of Brigham City, Utah; Kim (Vicky) Matthews of Perry, Utah; Loree (Ron) Crummett of Boise, Idaho; Sallie Matthews of Orem Utah; 27 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; seven step children, Linda (Bob) Trexler, Oregon; David Reddish, Draper; Kent Reddish, Ogden; Mike (Sue) Reddish, Clinton; Ron (Rose Marie) Reddish, Ogden; son-in-law Paul Beckstead, Farr West; Jerry Reddish, Ogden; Sharon Kay Reddish, Clearfield; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Dimple E. Brown Reddish, one granddaughter Yvette Adel Matthews, one step-daughter Carol Beckstead, his parents Roland and Elsie Matthews, and siblings Victor, William, LeRoy, Donald, Hazel (Frazier), Leslie and Robert. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
