Bonita Dee McCullough Morton

“Bonnie”

1930-2018

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Bonita “Bonnie” Dee McCullough Morton, 88, passed away in her sleep on May 24, 2018 at Fairfield Village of Layton, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Bonnie was born May 11, 1930 in Delta, Utah to Bessie Deborah Manning and Alvey Clark McCullough. She moved to Farmington, Utah when she was 6 years old. At 16 she was named Queen of the Gold and Green Ball at her Farmington stake.

Bonnie was a member of Pro-Schola, the cheering section, at Davis High. She also played saxophone in the Davis High Orchestra, where she met her high school sweetheart, Waynard Morton. Bonnie married Waynard on June 30, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in the year 2000. Waynard passed away on September 19, 2001.

Bonnie was the manager of school lunch at Burton Elementary for many years. She was active in the LDS Church, and held many church positions including Primary president. She was also a Cub Scout den leader for her sons.

Bonnie hosted many holiday gatherings for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at her home in Kaysville, where she lived for 60 years. She loved planting and tending her beautiful flower beds in their yard. She was a wonderful cook and baked the best dinner rolls, as well as delicious cookies, cakes, and doughnuts for church events and family gatherings. She loved genealogy, and compiled booklets of family histories for her children.

She was a Vice President of the International Society of Daughters of Utah Pioneers for 10 years, and she served as a docent at the Pioneer Memorial Museum in Salt Lake City. Bonnie also spoke at many DUP conferences around the state during this time. She loved the outdoors. Her family went camping and fishing in many beautiful places across Utah and Alaska. She also visited Canada and Europe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Waynard, sister Sherel, and great-granddaughter Danica. She is survived by sons Jerald (Kristie), Brian (Beverly), Steven (Marcia), and Gregory (April), 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and siblings Lynn, Kay, and Andrea.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Fairfield Village of Layton for their kind care giving.
