William Leon Buckley

May 24, 1927 — January 29, 2024

Bountiful, Utah ~ William Leon Buckley (Bill), 96, passed away on January 29, 2024, after a long illness.   He was born May 24, 1927, the son of William LeRoy Buckley and Alice Larsen Buckley.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  Upon his return he completed high school and then completed an apprenticeship in printing.   He worked for the Newspaper Agency Corporation, which printed The Salt Lake Tribune and The Deseret News, for his entire career.  He married Patricia (Pat) Nye Buckley and they built a home in Bountiful, Utah.   They celebrated 64 years of marriage together.  Pat preceded him in death.

Bill was an avid bowler and golfer.  He was especially proud of the 298 game he bowled  and never forgave the two pins that did not fall! He was always the handyman, often building toys for the neighborhood kids and always fixing something around the house and yard.  Until his illness, he worked out regularly at a local Bountiful gym, astounding other gym members by his incredible fitness.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his brother Faye LeRoy Buckley.  He is survived by his two daughters, Becky Buckley and Kelly Buckley, one granddaughter Jennifer Johnston (Pete), and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Elaine Speer along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside ceremony will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Bill in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
