Virginia Mackey, beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma joined her eternal companion on September 30, 2025.
She was born on August 3, 1931, in Taos, New Mexico to Victor and Marina Miera. She was the only daughter and middle child. She was loved and spoiled by her family. After graduation from high school, she worked in the county clerk’s office for a few years before making the decision to move to Utah. Her family decided to all go with her, so they sold their properties and moved to Salt Lake City.
On Halloween, 1953, she met “the most handsome man she had ever seen”. They dated and were engaged by Christmas. On February 5, 1954, Virginia married her red-haired dream man, Lee Mackey, in Layton, Utah.
In the next few years, they were blessed with 2 daughters, Wanda and Donna. This loved little family enjoyed many adventures together, but the best part was the relationship that Lee and Virginia had. They were truly best friends and were never apart.
On February 10, 1972, Virginia and Lee were sealed together in the Los Angeles LDS temple. They then hurried home and were sealed to their 2 daughters in the Salt Lake Temple. This was one of the greatest blessings in Virginia’s life.
Virginia has a strong testimony of Christ and she loved being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many church callings including a service mission. Her favorites being the Relief Society President for 3 different bishops and her dream calling, without any musical experience, was the ward chorister while she was in her nineties.
Virginia’s sweetheart passed away on December 30, 1999. She missed her eternal companion every day.
She is survived by her children, Val & Wanda Martin and Dennis & Donna Nelson. She has 9 grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon & Kristen Nelson, Tyler & McKenzei Martin, Kirk & Erin Nelson, Amos & Kristi Connell, Dustin & Brittanie Nelson, Austin & Tori Slaughter, Kevin & Brooke John, Clay & Kristi Martin and Kyle & Taylor Nelson. Also, her great-grandchildren Tyson, Tylee, Brynlee, Ryan, Harlie, Jayci, Zoey, Devon & Kaitlyn, Tyke & Hunter, Kinlee, Bridger & Brylee, Chet, Bryton, Briggs, Haylee, Kylee, Danika, Hank, Easton, Berkeley and soon, Baby Quinn. Virginia had 1 great-great grandbaby, Navy.
Her family wishes to thank Atlas Hospice, especially her nurse Ronal and CNA’s Crysten and Monica for their love and care for the last few months.
