Virgil D Ekstrom

June 13, 1942 — November 22, 2023

Virgil passed away Wednesday, November 22nd, at home surrounded by family and friends at Legacy House of Taylorsville, where he was loved and appreciated for his unique quips, huge heart, and mischievous grin.

Born in Bountiful, Utah, to Ernest “Ernie” and Blenda Frandsen Ekstrom.  Raised in Salt Lake City, Virgil was the little brother in his tight knit family.  He channeled his energy and excelled at football and wrestling before graduating from East High School in 1961. After joining the Army and serving as an MP, Virgil moved to Price to join his buddies in coal mining until he met and married Shauna Wilson and moved back to Bountiful, where he began his career in the trucking industry and welcomed a daughter Heidi and son Justin.  Soon after relocating to Washington state, their son Nathan was born.  At the time of his retirement from Federal Express, Virgil moved back to his beloved Utah, where he remained until his death.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Burke and Evan Ekstrom, and sister Rowenna Erickson.  He is survived by his sisters Laurine Kingston (Leon) and Sheila Bruns (Loren) and brothers Alton (Jo Ann) and Vernal Ekstrom.  Virgil leaves a legacy of profound kindness, love of food, and hilarious improv one-liners for his adoring granddaughters Sarah, Ellie, Julia, and children Heidi Poché, Justin, and Nathan Ekstrom to cherish.  He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who will have stories to share for generations.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
