Viola Marguerite Martinsen
Viola Marguerite Martinsen, of Layton, Utah passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 26, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Viola was born to James Earl and Bessie Thomas on February 17, 1927 in Munden, Kansas. She had a happy childhood living on the family farm with her parents and sister, Neva Eisenhut.
After graduation Viola attended business school and then began a career in secretarial work. In the fall of 1952 Viola met the love of her life, Sgt William Martinsen. They were married September 12, 1953 at Forbes Air Force Base in Kansas. Bill and Viola had four children while stationed in Topeka Kansas: Mark (Jean) Martinsen, Cathy (Daniel) Glade, Carol (Steven) Brusch and Judy (Mark) Etter. Family was everything to Viola and they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 26, 1962 so that her family would be eternal.
Viola was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in man y positions in the church, Primary, Cub Scouts, Young Women, and Relief Society Instructors. One of Viola''s favorite callings was serving as a Temple worker at the Ogden Temple for 1992 a" 2005. Both Viola and William loved Temple work and their friends at the temple.
Viola loved sewing, gardening in the flower beds, and doing her genealogy. But the love of her life was her grand and great-grandchildren. Viola had 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her as much joy as spending time with them.
Viola was a kind generous woman that will be greatly missed by all that know her.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
