CLEARFIELD a" Vica Hall Germer, 92, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
Vica was born Oct 1, 1919, in Mountain View, Idaho to Warren Elmer and Mary Olive Haws Hall. At the age of 10, the family moved to Elwood, Utah where she attended school and later graduated from Bear River High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Fred Martin Germer on Jan 20, 1939, in the Logan LDS Temple. Fred died July 11, 2007.
Vica and Fred attended Utah State University , where she graduated from the Beautician College in May, 1940. They lived in several places during the War Years, but eventually settled in Clearfield where Fred built a home in 1944. They lived in their entire married life in that home and they loved the many friendships they forged during those years.
Vica grew up in a musical family and learned to play several instruments, but is best known for her playing of the banjo. Her parents and siblings had a family dance band that played for dances and other gatherings throughout Northern Utah and Southern Idaho. Her sisters then formed an all- girl''s band called The Rhythm Girls. Once Vica''s and Olive''s children grew old enough to play an instrument or sing, they formed the Hall Sister''s Family Band and performed in many of the same venues that their original Hall Family band did. Vica loved to sing and took every opportunity to perform in trios and various choir groups.
Vica was an active member of the LDS Church and loved to participate in her church callings. One of the first callings she had was when she and Fred were called to be the Ward Dance Directors, then later called to be the Stake Dance Directors. She later served in the Ward and Stake Young Women''s presidencies and a Relief Society presidency. Vica and Fred served a full time mission to South Carolina for 18 months, later served three Stake Missions, and then served as Ordinance Workers at the Ogden Temple for three years.
Surviving are her two daughters, Lois (Randy) Eberhard, Clearfield; Mary Jean (Neil) Knudsen, Clinton; her #1 son Reid M. (Bonnie) Germer, Layton; and one sister, Myrtle (Elvin) Taysom, Tempe, AZ; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son Mark Dean, one grandson, Ryan Neil Knudsen, her three brothers, Elmer, Dee(Buss), and Dean Hall, and one sister, Olive Fifield.
Funeral services will be held Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Clinton 20th Ward chapel, 1288 W. 1300 No., Clinton, UT. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Mortuary 1867 No. Fairfield Rd, Layton and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
The Family wishes to thank the staff and management of Peach Tree Orchard Care Center and Hospice For Utah for the tender care given to Vica during her stay in their facilities.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations can be made to the Temple Patron Fund or General Missionary Fund at any LDS church.
