Vera Leonora Copleston Caulford
OGDEN a" Vera Leonora Copleston Caulford, 96, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from congestive heart failure at The Gardens Assisted Living.
She was born November 4, 1915 in Elmhurst, Long Island, New York the daughter of Edwin and Cecelia Christina Spindler Copleston. She was raised by her grandparents after her parents divorced. She worked for years to find her mother. In 2003 a brother she did not know existed, Robert Fenton found her which answered a lot of questions. She learned she had a sister Yolanda Fenton Graham (deceased) and was an aunt.
Vera married Lawrence H. Caulford in September 1937. They had four sons, Edwin, Lewis, Leslie and Ronald. They were later divorced. She married James H. Caulford and they adopted a son, Ronald Lee Gadsby Caulford. James preceded her in death on February 8, 1996.
She resided in New York 43 years before moving to Michigan, then to Utah and Malad, Idaho.
During World War II she worked a short time for G.E. otherwise a homemaker until Lawrence''s auto accident put her back into the work force. She worked Civil Service at Detroit Arsenal and Hill AFB where she retired.
Vera was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved dogs and cats, knitting, playing games, traveling, western movies, reading and making porcelain dolls.
Surviving are her sons, Edwin L. (Judy), Ogden; Lewis M., Florida; Leslie (Lucy), Michigan; Ronald Paul (Carol), Idaho; Ronald Lee, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Letha Fenton, MO; cousin, Jeremy (Joyce) Copleton, NY; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brother, sister, a grandson and great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
