Listen to Obituary

Our fun-loving mom, daughter, sister, grandma, aunt, and friend, Valerie Barker Westover, passed away unexpectedly on February 21, 2026. Valerie was born December 18, 1958 in Ogden, Utah. She was a birthday gift to her Grandma Cheney and brother Larry as they shared the same date of birth. She was the third of four children born to Robert William and LaDonna Taylor Barker. Most of her childhood was spent in Clearfield where she enjoyed art, gymnastics, playing with neighborhood friends, singing, and sports. Valerie graduated from Clearfield High School in 1977 where she was a member of the Honor Society, graduating in the top ten percent of her class.

Some of Valerie’s young adult life was spent in Kettering, Ohio, with her parents, where she worked as a nanny and in a department store. Upon her return to Utah, Valerie pursued an associates degree at Weber State College while working as a bank teller and later in life worked as a substitute teacher for Davis and Weber School districts.

As a hopeless romantic, Valerie longed for the American dream: a husband, a home, children, and a white picket fence. She married Alvin Bray and through that marriage Valerie fulfilled her greatest desire, to be a mother. Her pride and joy, Clint Taylor Bray, was born in April of 1990. Valerie was happily married to Dennis Thompson for a short time but he tragically passed away from cancer in 2002. Valerie found her one true love in Jawin Clark Westover. They were sealed in the Ogden Temple on April 22, 2022. Together they enjoyed a tender, meaningful companionship filled with laughter and take out on the 22nd of every month. A hopeless romantic himself, Jawin showered Valerie with love, gifts, flowers, and treats. He made sure she felt loved and treated her like a queen.

Valerie will be remembered for her sense of humor, loud laughter, and beautiful singing voice. We will miss her endless compliments, always noticing the beauty in others. Through the many health and life challenges Valerie endured, she was always happy and cheerful. Nothing brought Valerie more joy than becoming a grandmother to Luna! She adored her!

Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and LaDonna Barker, husband Dennis Thompson, husband Jawin Westover, sister Annette Peterson, and brother-in-law Michael Parker. She is survived by her son Clint Bray (Sabrina) of Riverdale, granddaughter Luna Bray, brother Larry (Joan) Barker of West Point, sister Shelly Parker (Stephen Stone) of Layton, and many nieces and nephews who she treated as her own. She is also survived by the Westover family who she was so grateful for.

Funeral services will be held Monday March 2, 2026, at 11 am at Lindquist Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse Utah. Friends may visit with family that morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, Ogden Utah.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the many care centers who took such excellent care of Valerie, most recently Heritage Park Healthcare and Rehabilitation In Roy. We also wish to express our gratitude to the Westover family for loving and accepting Valerie into their family. You were always so helpful and kind to her. She loved each of you so much.
