Tyler Stanley Smith

Tyler Stanley Smith has taken his next steps in his journey and slipped from this world on July 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Tyler was born on May 16, 1968, to Karen Harbertson and Malcom “Smitty” Smith in Van Nuys, California.

The family moved to Huntsville, Utah where Tyler learned Jr. Posse, 4H, and his love for the outdoors, a trait that he later passed on to his children. Tyler graduated from Weber High School and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona to pursue his education in Auto Repair.

Tyler moved back to Utah and met Mavanee Mays on Christmas day, who he married and together they were able to raise 3 beautiful children: Kolton, Tasia, and Skyler. Weekends were always an adventure in the household, Tyler would often take his children and nieces and nephews camping, hunting, fishing, or just going for long drives on dirt roads. Mavanee and Tyler later separated but remained friends and co-parents to their children.

Tyler spent many years in the construction industry. Many of those he worked with knew and called him “Bones”. He was known as someone that worked hard and took pride in his work; A value that he instilled in each of his children.

Tyler was never afraid to help his children and always was willing to help those in need. Whether it was to help someone with horses, yardwork, fixing sprinklers, getting firewood or helping fix a car; Tyler would give of his time.

Later in life he reconnected with his childhood sweetheart, Holly. They courted for 12 years before tying the knot. Tyler treasured going to Wyoming with her and her family and had many adventures there. One thing that he loved to do was to farm and help his in-laws with the hay and work the land.

Tyler faced many challenges in life, which he continued to fight everyday. One challenge they faced was in 2015 when Tyler went into kidney failure and needed a kidney transplant. Thanks to an amazing donor Kim, he was fortunate to receive a kidney in 2017. He always called it his “pretty kidney”. If it wasn’t for this great miracle, Tyler wouldn’t have been able to see his two grandchildren who were his pride and Joy. Tyler loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them run and play.

Tyler’s next battle came about 6 years later when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. With his fighting spirit he was able to have the cancer removed and remain cancer free for 17 months. Tyler fought this battle until the very end and has shown what a true hero and fighting spirit is.

Tyler is survived by his mother Karen Smith, brother Lee (Andrea) Smith, children Kolton (Shelby) Mays, Tasia (PJ) Larsen, 2 grandchildren Wylie and Jexen, Skyler (Julie) Smith and 4 step grandchildren Brock, Brittany, and Bailey, and Chloe, and his beautiful wife Holly and his 4 stepchildren Garrett, Aubree, Braxton, and Brodie.

Tyler was greeted on the other side by his father Malcom Smith, grandparents Ed Harbertson Sr, Evelyn Harbertson, Arlene Jack, and John Farmer. Aunt Sonya Harbertson, Uncle Ed Harbertson Jr, Uncle Guy Harbertson, Uncle Michael McHugh.

A celebration of life will be held for Tyler on Sunday July 27, 2025, from 4 pm to 7 pm up at the Weber Memorial Park, Area A (Causey Dr, Huntsville, UT 84317.)

We would like to thank all his doctors and his hospice team who helped extend Tyler’s time with his family. Amber was an angel with all her help and care she gave Tyler, from Dr. Smith, his kidney doctor, to Dr. Mason, his oncologist. Until we meet again, rest easy Dad; we’ve got it from here.
