Theresa Botelho Broda passed away on May 12, 2025, in Clinton, Utah, after several years of struggles with Dementia, at the age of 92. She was born in Amsterdam, New York to Theresa Calisant and Joseph Botelho. She has an older sister, Mercie, and her identical twin, Phyllis.
Theresa went to St. John’s High School in Albany, New York, graduating as valedictorian in 1951. She then went to St. Peter’s Hospital School of Nursing, in Albany, New York, graduating in 1954. Upon graduation, she worked at Cornell Medical Center in New York City. After moving to Phoenix in 1963, she attended Arizona State University graduating with an advanced nursing degree.
She worked at Good Samaritan Hospital as an operating room nurse and was part of the first kidney transplant team in Arizona. She finished her career at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver Colorado.
Theresa was married to Harold Broda in 1956 and had one daughter. They later divorced. Theresa dedicated her life to her nursing career and family and fulfilled her goal to be financially independent. She will be remembered for her generosity and kindness to her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Rick) Szymanski, six grandchildren, Matthew (Melanie) Szymanski, Bryan (Brittany) Szymanski, Aaron (Paige) Szymanski, Scott (Jessy) Szymanski, Patrick (Kari) Szymanski, Rachel (Brad) Mears, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was watching her great-grandchildren play and have fun.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Clinton City Cemetery. 750 West 800 North, Clinton UT. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary. 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse UT.
