Sue Taylor Butcher, affectionately known as Suzy Q, has taken her last breath on February 9, 2026, at her home, no doubt scolding the angels for not wearing sequins. Born in the fabulous year of 1947 in the equally fabulous Ogden, Sue was a force of nature, ever the life of the party and always ready with that contagious laugh that could crack concrete.
From the moment she graduated Bonneville High School where she dazzled on the drill team, to her time at Weber State University juggling beauty school, drill team, and obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in physical education (because why not be fabulous and fit?), she never let a little thing like "multiple degrees" slow her down. Oh no, Suzy Q was too busy being PTA president, running the show for the Young Women, and executing her Relief Society duties, while sporting her iconic bright colors and matching accessories that could blind a deer!
Whether it was crafting the next great floral arrangement masterpiece, or helping grandma with quilting (even though she pretended she hated that bit), she had creativity flowing through her veins stronger than a Starbucks on a Monday morning. And let's not forget her eternally messy scrapbooking endeavors for kids. She took pride in documenting every sneeze they made, though if she were honest, she might admit she didn't quite finish her masterwork on more than one occasion.
Family trips to Yellowstone were her happy place—fishing on Yellowstone Lake with her mom and dad, Dale and the kids, it is amazing they all fit in the boat; greater that they survived the excursions! Every week brought a family dinner, a culinary spectrum of disaster and delight that would have put any cooking show to shame! And speaking of favorites, she was undoubtedly the best golfing buddy for her husband, Dale, because nothing says love like yelling “Fore!” in bright sequins!
The proudest accomplishments of her life were her children and grandchildren. Her love for them was so vast it almost required a GPS to navigate through all the gifts and crocheted items she had planned for them. To put it simply, her love was wrapped around her family tighter than those brightly colored tops she wore. It’s rumored that if you wanted to get Sue talking, just mention those grandkids, and she could go on for hours. Come hell or high water, she was always there for her family.
Suzy Q leaves behind her loving husband, Dale, whose life will forever feel just a tad less sparkly; sons, Brandon (Megan) Holmes and Jeremy (April) Holmes, along with Kameron (Kellie) Butcher and Reagan (Aaron) Herzog; and a whole squad of 14 grandchildren, who'll each claim they were her favorite.
As she joins her beloved parents, Clark and Florence; and her brothers, Blaine, Robert, and Stanton in the great beyond, we can only imagine she’s decorated their afterlife with all her flair.
So, here’s to Sue Taylor Butcher. May her laughter echo forever, her sequined jackets shine brightly in heaven, and may we always remember to live life just a little more fabulously in her honor!
