Steven James Oakeson

Steven James Oakeson, born on August 22, 1990, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Steven Leon Oakeson and Deborah Smethurst Oakeson, passed away on July 11, 2025, in Cedar City, Utah.

Steven's life was one marked by love, family, and a zest for adventure. He married Emilee Scott on November 25, 2011, in West Jordan, Utah. Together they had a son, Amulek, who was nine years old at the time of his passing. Steven was a devoted father, and his relationship with Amulek was the most important thing in his life.

Steven was a graduate of Northwest Lineman College, where he learned skills that would contribute to his many and varied occupations. His caring for those around him and strong work ethic were evident to all who knew him. He cherished his personal interests, which included spending quality time with his son, camping, hiking, online gaming, and playing collectible card games. These hobbies reflected his vibrant personality and love for engaging with others.

He is survived by his loving parents, Steven and Deborah Oakeson, and his siblings, Rachel (Justin) Griffin and Aaron Oakeson. Their bond with Steven, strengthened by many memories of shared experiences, will carry forward in their hearts

 Steven's extended family is deeply grateful to the Cedar City Police Department and Iron County Sheriff’s Office and others who assisted for their tireless efforts in the search and rescue operations during this difficult time.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, 1:00 p.m. at the Kays Creek Stake Center, 2680 E. Cherry Lane, Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit with family prior to services from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. at the church.

As those who knew Steven come together to remember him, they will cherish memories of time spent  together, reflecting on a life that, though too short, left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
