Listen to Obituary

Steven Charles Falkner was born in Provo, Utah, to Henry Hales and Elma Hanson Falkner, the second of three sons and one daughter. Steve passed away on a Sunday, January 4, 2026, of complications from double pneumonia, surrounded by his loving family.

Steve was raised in Boise, Idaho, graduating from Borah High School. He attended the University of Idaho where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Ironically, it was on one particular Sunday at church, he was introduced to Paula Vanderwood. They were married on December 23, 1966, and recently celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary.

Steve graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He served in the Army National Guard. His basic training was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, followed by Quarter Master School at Fort Lee, Virginia during the Vietnam War.

Steve went to work for Wyeth Laboratories as a Medical Representative for 39 years. He received many accolades, awards, and recognitions during those years. He earned three Gold Cups and the Golden Oval, the highest award attainable in the company. They awarded him with a trip to New York City, where they stayed at the Plaza Hotel. Although these honors from his work career made him proud, they couldn’t hold a candle to the birth and life of his sons and grandchildren. His purpose was his family. He was an exceptional father and grandfather.

He served in the scouting program and as a Boy Scout Committee Chairman. He volunteered to coach his boys in whatever sports they were involved in. He even went to the library and checked out books on basketball when his son, Randall, wanted to play on a team. He formed a team of kids that had not been chosen to play on any other teams. They lost every game but had a lot of fun. He was also a little league baseball coach for his son Brandon.

Steve loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, whether it was at the cabin in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, visiting the National Parks of Utah with his grandchildren, Sunday breakfasts at home, supporting Kelly with dance and Lakettes, and Ashlyn in her tennis lessons and matches. He was our family’s “marathon man,” running in about 50 marathons including two Boston Marathons. He took great pride in running in the 100th Anniversary of the Boston Marathon. With the early morning runs and marathons, Steve and his friends Tom, Betty, and Terry accumulated enough miles to have made more than a trip around the earth.

Steve was a man of substance. He followed the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. He greatly honored his parents during their lifetime upon this earth. Steve was always looking for ways to bless the lives of others. He was constantly engaged in completing acts of service for those who were lucky enough to be members of his family or friends. Everyone who knew Steve can recall numerous times that they personally benefited from his friendship. It could be his specialty treats like his homemade cupcakes or “Phred’s Phavorites,” a quick visit, phone call or some other act showing that he cared, and that it was his desire to serve his fellowman. What a privilege it was to be within his circle.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Paula; sons, Randall, Tyler (Jen), and Brandon; his five grandchildren, Deylon, Kelly, Kaden, Carson, and Ashlyn; brother, Larry (Amanda); and sister-in-law, Julia Falkner. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marilyn (Jerry) Anderson; and his brother, Rees.

Special thanks to his nurse Lexy for her exceptional love and care of Steve, and to best friends, Steve and Judy Farr; his brother, Larry; and Paula’s family, Roy and Sally Farrar, and Cindy Vanderwood for being there during this difficult time.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
