Stephen Rand Hill, age 68, passed away unexpectedly from complications of Bacterial Meningitis on September 28, 2025, in Bountiful, Utah. Born on April 6, 1957, in Salt Lake City to Shanda Smith and Vernon Hill. Steve lived a life full of passion, spirituality, craftsmanship, and a deep love for his family.
A master of his trade, Steve first found success co-owning and operating a very successful KFC franchise before dedicating his life to the art of tiling—work he took great pride in and perfected over decades. His journey eventually led him to Hawaii, where he built not only a successful life, but a loving home, family, and community of friends.
Steve had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. He found peace in nature, cherished his morning walks, loved yellow irises, and found inspiration in music—especially the sounds of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and My Morning Jacket. He loved traveling with his family, cheering on his favorite sports teams, indulging in chocolate and black licorice, spending quiet moments outdoors, and doting on the cats he adored. But above all, Steve loved being with his wife and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Kristy, his three children Dylan, Ethan and Steviann, their spouses, three cherished grandchildren, two brothers, extended family, and devoted friends. His legacy of love, craftsmanship, and quiet strength will live on in each of them.
A private service will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to take a walk, listen to your favorite song, or spend time with someone you love—just as Steve would have done.
