Stephen Webster Coulter
1944-2012
Our loving and caring husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend Stephen Webster Coulter passed away on March 3, 2012 due to complications related to his illness. He was born September 21, 1944 to Webster and Alice Coulter in Pasadena, California where they lived along with his sister Roberta until they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1954. In 1962 Steve graduated from Gorman High School in Las Vegas then continued his studies at UNLV. In 1965, Steve married Janet Leavitt from Las Vegas and together they raised three children, Brett, Stephanie and Jeff. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple on June 11, 1966. In 1967 his father asked him to help run the family business, Coulter Homes, which he grew into one of the most successful manufactured housing dealerships in the nation. As a real estate developer, Steve worked hard to provide affordable housing to countless families and pioneered breakthroughs in the manufactured housing industry to create first-of-a-kind high class retirement communities that enhanced the quality and respectability of manufactured housing ownership.
Steve deeply loved his family and was a faithful friend to all he knew. He never met a stranger, and once you let him in you had a friend for life. He travelled the world but particularly loved fishing at his childhood stomping grounds of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and later the mountains of Southern Utah at Mammoth Creek. The last few years of Steve''s life were wrought with physical limitations due to his illness, but during this time his spirit refined and some of his best qualities and attributes shined through. His family has a measure of peace knowing he is no longer in pain and that he has gone home to reunite with his mother and father who preceded him.
He is survived by his wife Janet; children Brett and Allyson Coulter, Stephanie Coulter, Jeff and Serena Coulter; grandchildren Lindsay, Taylor, Ashley, Lauren, Emily, Justin, Ethan, Kelsey and Cash; sister Roberta and her husband Harold (Candy) Carroll; brother and sisters-in-law Dale and Janice Gardner and Sharron Leavitt; his best friend/brother Phil Embury and his wife Sandra-Dee; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the LDS Chapel Bluff Ridge Ward, 535 West 2700 South, Syracuse, Utah.
