Stanley D Moss

Captain Stanley D Moss, CAPT USN (ret.)

Stan Moss was born in Clearfield, Utah on July 2, 1932, to Hazen and Rozella Moss. Stan graduated from Davis High School and enjoyed playing the trombone in the band and many Big Band gigs around town. On August 14, 1951, Stan married Norine Holt, his high school sweetheart. Together they raised four children. Stan passed away August 9, 2025, peacefully in his home with his Granddaughter, Jennifer Moss, by his side.

Stan was a lifelong devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in the Bishopric for years. Stan also worked in the Bountiful Temple with his wife Norine for many years.

Stan enlisted in the Navy, and during that time he received his degree in Electrical Engineering and later his Master’s. He was determined because he said he would never go back on the ship unless he was an officer. Stan was a veteran of the Korean War. He served active duty on the original USS-Toledo, touring the south Pacific seas and Japan. He then served as a reserve officer until he retired on July 2, 1992, with the rank of Captain. Stan instilled the ethics of hard work and determination in his children through his military service.

Stan also had an exciting career in Electrical Engineering and retired from Unisys Corp. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Utah during this same time. He designed integrated circuits. Stan held several patents and contributed to Dr. Jarvik’s artificial heart development.

Stan had an avid love of the outdoors and shared that love with his children. There were many Sunday outings to Yellowpine to go ‘bust a melon.’ Most of his family’s fond memories are of camping, hunting, boating, fishing, water and snow skiing, snowmobiling, and riding ATVs with him.

After 50 years of marriage, Stan lost his sweetheart Norine to cancer. He was fortunate to find love again and married Dixie Taylor Moss on March 28, 2003. They shared many years of happiness prior to her passing in 2020.

Stan is survived by his children, Ronald Holt Moss (Mary), Brent Graydon Moss, Janalie Moss Brown (Rick), as well as his grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Stan was preceded in death by his wife Norine Holt Moss, his second wife Dixie Taylor Moss, and his son, S. David Moss, MD.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday August 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood Road, Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit family Wednesday August 13, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road Layton, Utah, and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

We love you Dad and take comfort in knowing you’re holding Mom’s hand and dancing away to the Big Bands.
