"Sherry" Charmelia Kay Madsen

July 18, 1940 — August 30, 2023

 

In Loving Memory of Sherry “Charmelia” Kay Madsen Sherry, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her children Wednesday August 30, 2023. Sherry was born July 18, 1940 to Lionel Aldrege and Maurice Giles Gillespie in Riverside California.

In 1941 the family moved to Manti Utah to help the Giles family run the Crystal Springs Resort. She attended school there and graduated from Manti High School, where she met and married Douglas Lee R. Madsen in the Manti Temple September 9, 1969.

 

They moved to Ogden and lived in an apartment where their first son, Roger, was born. They built their first home in South Ogden where their next three children were born, Patti, Debbie,

and David. They then moved to Layton where their last son, Douglas, was born. They later divorced. She then lived in Syracuse, Spring City, and the last five years with her daughter Debbie and her family in West Haven.

 

Sherry led a fulfilling life. She enjoyed making wedding cakes for friends and family. She had a great love of music. She enjoyed reading and especially history. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She loved old movies, scrapbooking and making cards.

 

She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, integrity, and compassion. She had a warm personality, always making others feel welcomed and loved. Sherry was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings from Primary, Young Women, Ward and Stake Relief Society, Temple Worker, and visiting teacher.

 

Sherry is survived by her children Roger Madsen, Patti (Carl) Woodward, Debbie (Eric) Maughan, David (Nicole) Madsen, and Doug (Sonya) Madsen; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, H. Aldridge (Marie) Gillespie and sister, Sue Ann (Don) Wanlass.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, granddaughter Baylee, and two great-grandsons Kobe and Charlie.

 

Services will be held Wednesday September 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosewood Ward Chapel located at 3628 South 2700 West, West Haven, Utah. Friends may visit with family Tuesday September 5, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Rose Wood Chapel.

 

Sherry will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and her unwavering love and support will forever remain in their hearts.
