Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Sherlyn Mae Perkins—lovingly known as Cookie—passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous 17-year battle with breast cancer and congestive heart failure.
Cookie was born on December 13, 1945, in Price, Utah, to Fred Lilburn Chipp and Marie Wilcock.
She married the love of her life, Jack Elton Perkins, on June 23, 1961, in Layton, Utah. Together, they raised two daughters, Jackie and Bridget.
Cookie’s greatest love was her family, followed closely by her deep faith. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took great joy in attending every temple she could. She served faithfully in many church callings, including Primary teacher and as part of the Relief Society presidency. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and TOPS International, where she was once crowned queen and served as treasurer. One of her favorite outings was meeting “the ladies” for monthly lunch dates filled with laughter and love.
Full of energy and passion for life, Cookie had a zest for the outdoors and physical activity. She loved fishing and had a reputation for always catching the first—and biggest—fish. She enjoyed going to the gym, walking, and biking “for fun,” often bringing others along with the encouragement to “keep up!” Cookie worked hard throughout her life—as a homemaker, mother, business owner, butcher, and ultimately retiring from Engineering Data at Hill Air Force Base.
Cookie is survived by her daughters Jackie (John) of Roy and Bridget (Paul) of Ogden; brothers Butch Chipp (Sunset) and Randy Thiel (Clearfield); grandchildren Crystal (Johnny), Cord (Amanda), Shae (Bosten), and Sadie (Gavin); great-grandchildren Jeness, Cody, Cameron, Kyle, Rylee, Steele, and Oli; great-great-granddaughters Skyla and Luna; as well as many beloved bonus grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack Perkins, and two cherished great-grandsons, Logan and Jayden.
Cookie’s legacy of love, strength, faith, and fun will live on in all who were lucky enough to know her.
