Sharon LaVerle Bowman Schneider, choice daughter and sister, devoted wife, treasured mother and grandmother, and steadfast disciple of Jesus Christ, bravely and faithfully finished her earthly journey and returned to the arms of our loving Heavenly Father on March 30, 2026. She touched countless lives with her unyielding commitment to truth and righteousness, and her legacy of enduring Christ-like love will live on forever in the hearts of those blessed to know her.
Mom was born on January 5, 1938, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to James LaVoy Bowman and Agnes Elizabeth Mason Bowman. No child ever possessed a deeper love and devotion for her parents. At a young age, she moved with her family to Hanford, Washington, then briefly, to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and on to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where she attended her early school years. Times were lean because of the war, but Mom had a rich abundance of love from her treasured family. When the war ended, they moved back to St. Anthony, Idaho, where she attended 5th and 6th grade. The family then moved to Ogden, Utah where Mom attended Central Junior High and went on to graduate from Weber High School. After graduating high school, she worked at J.J. Newberry. It was during this time she met her future husband, Harold (Hal) Schneider, a promising musician from The Bronx, New York who was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. A shared love of music brought them together, and they were married on May 28, 1960. Mom and Dad lived in New York for about a year and then moved back to Utah. They were blessed with 8 children. Mom’s love for her family was central to her existence, eclipsed only by her unwavering love of her Father in Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a visiting teacher and primary teacher, but most importantly as a devoted disciple of Christ. Her ability to see the good in others and love them unconditionally helped many feel of our Savior’s love and inspired them to draw nearer to Him. She exemplified charity, the pure love of Christ. Mom had a great appreciation and love for the beauty of all of God’s creations. She was a gifted painter, with a special love for flowers, springtime, and the mountains. Mom adored animals. She had many horses, cats, and dogs over the years that she loved very much and considered family. Mom was also an exceptionally talented singer and yodeler. She could sing from high soprano down to almost bass. She could have sung on any prestigious stage, but her greatest performances were those given in the quiet comfort of her living room surrounded by family and while cradling her children in her arms as she sung them to sleep.
On September 11, 1991, Mom and Dad were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. This meant everything to Mom. Her greatest hope was to have her family together forever. She re-emphasized this desire hundreds of times in her final days here on earth. Mom led a life anchored on faith in Jesus Christ, devotion to the gospel, and love for one another, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to do the same. Mom’s posterity has grown to include 8 children, 32 grandchildren and 37 (soon to be 38) great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy, and theirs, could be found in the moments spent together laughing, singing, and reminiscing. These treasured memories will live on in our hearts until we can be together again and make more.
Mom patiently endured many difficult trials in her life. In the later years of her life, she lost her vision and developed an essential tremor, which robbed her of her ability to see, drive, paint, and sing. She also suffered the heartbreaking loss of several beloved family members. These were especially heavy burdens for Mom. Her example of resolute determination to “hold fast” and keep pressing forward with faith is a priceless gift she has left to each of her loved ones as we now try to navigate a way to finish our own journeys without her physical presence.
Mom is survived by her eternal companion, Hal Schneider, beloved sister Betty Drummond (Marv), children Tammy Hunt (Brad), Denise Watkins (Larry), Adam Schneider (Lily), Jada Steed (Scott), Robin Scholtec, Amanda Prince (Kevin), Amber Kelso (Jake), Jace Schneider (Rocio), 32 grandchildren, and 37 (soon to be 38) great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, sisters Shirley Winters and Merlene Bowman, grandchildren Sarah Steed, Dallin Hunt, and Holland Prince, and her much-loved dogs Ginger, Boots, Colie, Delilah, Chandy, Snowshoe, Sasha, Charlie, Bandit, and Touche’. We find comfort in knowing a blessed reunion has taken place beyond the veil.
Mom will be remembered for her humility, warm hugs, gentle spirit, beautiful smile, selflessness, spunk, impish giggle, ability to see the good in others, and her steadfast testimony of Jesus Christ, the plan of salvation and promise of eternal families. Her light and love will continue to bless her family for generations to come, until we are reunited again.
