Sharon Michiko Koga, 73, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022. She was born on March 19, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to Tatsuo and Sumiko Kido Koga. She graduated from Weber High School and received a Bachelor of Arts, Music, from Weber State University, where she was a member of the University’s Symphony Orchestra and Marching Band. Sharon had a passion for music especially for the cello. She carried on her passion, teaching music at Roy High School. In 1978, she moved to Southern California, worked at the USC School of Economics and played in a number of music ensembles in the area. Later, Sharon went to work at RAND Corporation as a research assistant until she retired in 2017. While living in Los Angeles, she was an active member of the Senshin Buddhist Temple, Kinnara Taiko and Gagaku. After retiring, Sharon moved back to Ogden where she was an active member of the Buddhist Church of Ogden and the Buddhist Women’s Association. She loved to play cello for some of the special church services and local music groups. Sharon traveled with family members to Korea and Japan--her favorite trip was the Japan “foodie” tour. Sharon loved food!!!

Sharon is survived by her cello, Herman; and her siblings, Glen (Colleen) Koga, Roy, UT; Dean Koga (Curt Johnson) Seattle, WA; Gene (Vikki) Koga, Naples, FL; Brenda Koga, Salt Lake, UT; Maya (Chuck) Chow, Bountiful, UT; and LaVerne (Ernie) Kyed, Layton, UT; nieces and nephews, Keith Chow (Valerie Tran), Aimee Kyed, Samantha Chow, Andrew Kyed, and John Koga.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Earl and Steven.

Special thanks to the team at Huntsman Cancer Institute and University of Utah Health for their exceptional care.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Buddhist Church of Ogden, 155 North Street, Ogden, UT. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
