Scott “Scotty” J. Sorensen, 70, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, due to health complications. A beloved son, husband, friend, and patriot, Scotty’s life was marked by service, adventure, and quiet acts of strength.
Born on March 19, 1955, at Saint Benedict Hospital in Ogden, Utah, Scotty was the son of Walter “Bud” N. and Clara M. Klein Sorensen. After graduating from Weber High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1986—a decision that would take him across the globe. Scotty cherished his time in service, and his travels introduced him to a world of cultures, languages, and lifelong memories. He was an avid storyteller, and those lucky enough to know him were often treated to tales filled with both adventure and laughter.
Following his retirement from the military, Scotty continued his life of service as both a security officer and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). From 2000 to 2013, he worked in the emergency department at McKay-Dee Hospital, where his steady presence and compassionate care were felt by many.
It was during this time that Scotty met the love of his life, Laura J. Moulton. The two were married on January 29, 1999, and together shared 26 years of steadfast companionship. Their marriage was one of deep love, partnership, and shared courage.
Scotty’s passions were as wide-ranging as his experiences. He was a marathon runner—with the St. George Marathon being his favorite. He found peace in the outdoors through camping and catch-and-release fishing (never a fan of the taste). He was a thoughtful reader and researcher, a movie lover, a skillful marksman, and someone who relished connecting with others over a good meal and lively conversations about life, history, and current events. Even on his most fatigued days, the promise of a corndog from “World’s Best Corndogs” food truck in Layton could spark unexpected bursts of energy—just ask his physical therapist Danny or any of his home health nurses who witnessed his “corndog superpowers” firsthand.
Later in life, Scotty was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a challenge he faced with quiet strength and remarkable resolve for 23 years. He remained active and engaged even being wheelchair-bound, he never let it define him and would keep his spirits high, and in his final years, he also lived with Lewy Body Dementia. Even through these trials, he never lost his spark, nor his desire to connect with others.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated healthcare personnel who walked alongside Scotty throughout his journey. He was always quick to recognize and appreciate the compassion and tireless work of his caregivers. Scotty often expressed how thankful he was for their kindness, and he made every effort to acknowledge the support they provided. With love and sincerity, his family would like to express their continued thanks to the Veterans Affairs (VA), Caregivers Support Home Health, and the many other care providers who played a role in his well-being. Their compassion left a lasting impact on Scotty’s life and brought comfort and dignity to his final years.
Scotty is survived by his eternal companion, Laura of 26 years. Scotty was special uncle to the 18 nieces and nephews especially the youngest, Patrick, who helped sing Scotty to sleep during many nights of insomnia, his faithful fur babies—Holly, Gracie, and Lucky—who were constant companions in his final years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter “Bud” N. and Clara M. Klein Sorensen; brother, Craig “Butch” W. Sorensen and many other cherished pets.
