Sandra Prows Julander

Sandra Prows Julander is a Disciple of Christ. She was raised in Altona, Salt Lake City, and Todd Park, Utah. Her parents were Fay Ovid Prows and Elva Ranck. She had one sister, Marlyn Russell, and a brother, Shelly (deceased). After joyful years of study at Brigham Young University, Sandra graduated and married Rod Julander. She manifested her love for her children by embodying the ideal homemaker and lovingly raised Dirk (Kayoko), Jori Barton (Russell), Tracy Hancey, (Chad) and Treg (Jennifer). While exemplifying her Savior’s love by serving others she instilled in her children the value and joy of a personal relationship with Christ.

One of Sandra’s many gifts was her great capacity for inclusion, to act upon recognizing the need for love or stability. She welcomed the Sengmanys, a refugee family from Laos, into her home, and many others who were blessed by the fount of compassion from which she so freely expressed.

Sandra’s lifelong service in the Church included treasured time with the Young Women and, after her divorce, fulfilling her dream of serving a mission in Japan and the Philippines. She had an innate love for people and her desire to serve her community in other capacities culminated in years of dedicated work at Enabled Industries. She loved her clients deeply and found joy in a meaningful, charitable profession.

Her grandchildren were the joy in her life.  Each one of the 11 (as well as each of her 13 great-grandkids) was very special to her and with each visit they found respite in the serene warmth and affection that only their grandmother could radiate. To be Sandra’s grandchild was to live within the constant periphery of angelic goodness and conviction.

Sandra is the epitome of a minister. She found community among her neighbors in North Ogden, and they devoted years of love and service to each other. We are forever grateful for the sweet companionship of such special friends. We are also grateful for the staff at Parkview, in Layton, where she passed from this life. Even in her most vulnerable moments they made her laugh, a kindness that will not be forgotten.

Sandra will never know the span of her influence. And how could she? A humbler person simply didn’t exist.  Her wide smile, buoyant laugh, and earnest embrace are now just memories for those who loved and knew her. But her legacy lives on in the impact that her quiet steadfastness in Christlike love had on all of us. She will forever be our treasured mother, grandmother, sister, friend, neighbor, Sandy.
