Samuel Taylor Evans was born Nov. 20, 1944, to parents Samuel Taylor Evans Sr. and Vesta Jensen. He spent his younger years growing up on a small farm in Willard, Utah. Life was simple.
As a teenager Sam had a passion for fast cars and would terrorize the streets of Box Elder during high school years. If you have noticed a light post near Peach City that has a big dent, you now know it was left by Sam’s front bumper.
Sam married his high school sweetheart, Janet Hall in 1964 in Brigham City. This is where they lived and started their family.
Sam graduated in engineering from Weber State and worked for Ford Motor Company and then as an engineer at EIMCO. After the passing of his Father, he was able to purchase the family business, Sam T Evans Pickup Cover and Trailer Sales. He ran this business for nearly 30 years before he retired. He worked hard in the business and enjoyed the interactions he had with many great customers. Sam was brilliant with numbers and took pride in making sure his books were balanced to the penny.
Sam loved duck hunting. In the name of fun, he spent many cold, wet mornings sitting in the mud with his son Eric waiting for a flock of unsuspecting ducks to fly over. This was hard to understand as it seemed like torture to the rest of us.
Sam and his wife Jan built a cabin in Wyoming where they liked to spend time. There were many fun memories made there with the family.
Sam was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. There was no job too big for him to take on.
After the passing of his son Eric, Sam battled mental illness. His obsession with Hot Rods and his need for speed came back with a vengeance! He may have been seen once again terrorizing the streets of Ogden. He became great friends with the local police as they met up for frequent “conversations.”
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to those who were patient with Sam during those challenging times. We appreciate your kindness during this part of his journey.
Sam spent his last few years at Whisper Cove assisted living center. We are thankful for all of those who extended compassion and love for him.
Sam is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet, two daughters: Lori (Dan) Schaerrer, Sheri (Val) Clark, daughter-in-law Nicole Evans, grandchildren Daniel (Kenzie) Schaerrer, Angie Schaerrer, Isaac (Shaylee) Clark, Samuel Clark, Davis (Haylee) Clark, Abigail Evans, Samuel Brennen Evans, Asher Evans, great grandchildren, Ridge, Jensen, Lucas, Ophelia and two more on the way.
Sam is preceded in death by his son Eric, his parents and his sister Patricia Gardner.
