S. David Moss

Stanley David Moss, MD, was born on July 4, 1952. David passed away unexpectedly on July 12th, 2025, surrounded by family in Cora, Wyoming, a place that he cherished for its beauty and the many fond memories he made with his family throughout his life.

David knew from an early age that he wanted to devote his life to the art of healing. He dedicated decades of his life to the necessary learning and training to do so and continued to seek knowledge throughout his career. His determined efforts and educational achievements allowed him to attend specialized medical programs across the country, leading him to the unique and demanding specialty of Pediatric Neurosurgery. He spent his 40-year professional career in this field, bringing hope and life to countless children and families. It was important to David to demonstrate reverence and respect for the well-being of his patients and their families, and this was clearly felt by all those he cared for. He brought forth innovative new surgical techniques and advances in surgery during his career, which advanced the field of neurosurgery. In addition to this, he was renowned for his capacity as a mentor and teacher to innumerable young physicians and surgeons in training, inspiring the next generation of medical professionals before his retirement in December of 2021.

David was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was proud to have served a mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was deeply faithful, was a continual learner of the gospel and enjoyed sharing his studies with others. Doctrinal beliefs and elements of faith were often incorporated into conversations with David. He always had a deep curiosity for the mysteries of the gospel, which he was often eager to discuss.

David’s greatest joy came from gathering his family together at every opportunity to go on adventures. Snowmobiling was a passion throughout his life, and he enjoyed riding with his family through the Yellowstone winterscape, as well as deep exploration through mountainous terrains. During the off-season, summer activities often included boating at Lake Powell and marine adventures such as taking the boat to the San Diego Harbor to watch the Fourth of July fireworks and chase dolphins along the coast. David never left any time idle when there were adventures to be had with his family. Retirement allowed even greater time to enjoy exploring the world with his wife Wendy, motorcycling cross-country through Alaska, British Columbia, and Newfoundland.

Just days before his passing, David and Wendy had the pleasure of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in the familiar location of San Diego, with all of their children and grandchildren. This was a memorable experience for all, which bestowed upon everyone a lasting memory of the legacy David created.

David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wendy Alice Gerber Moss, and their five children, Ryan (Brianne), Erin (Chad), BreAnne (Gary), Britany (Kreig), and Brendan. He is also survived by his thirteen beloved grandchildren, Brogan, Claire, Caden, Lincoln, Jack, Alice, Wilhelmina, Wesley, Holden, Graham, Philippa, June, and Emmett. He leaves behind his father, Stanley D. Moss, his siblings, Ronald, Janalie, and Brent, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Norine Holt Moss.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main St., Kaysville, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday July 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.
