Ryan Blake Tatton, our husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on April 5, 2026 after a year-long battle with leukemia. He passed peacefully with his loved ones by his side.
Ryan was born on November 16, 1971, in Ogden, Utah, to Leland Roy Tatton and Kathy Lynette Creamer. Ryan was the second oldest of 8 siblings with whom he shared countless memories and funny stories. Because of his father’s work, Ryan spent much of his childhood living in various places across the United States, an experience that shaped his love for adventure and new places. Despite the many moves, Park City, Utah was the place he always considered home, holding years of cherished memories for him and his family. Ryan and his siblings grew up skiing, camping, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Annual trips to Yellowstone National Park were among his most treasured traditions—ones he later continued with his own children, creating lasting memories and passing on his love for the outdoors. Ryan often expressed gratitude for his wonderful parents and the life they provided for him and his siblings.
He earned his associate degree from Rick’s College and later continued his education at the University of Utah. Ryan built a meaningful career as a federal employee in Human Resources, working for both the United States Air Force and the Internal Revenue Service. He was known as a dedicated and diligent professional who consistently supported his colleagues, often going out of his way to help others.
Ryan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in Seattle, Washington where he grew an appreciation for the area and strengthened his testimony and faith. He served in many church callings throughout his life. He enjoyed serving in the church’s youth program where he was a great leader and mentor to the young men he taught.
Ryan shared two wonderful daughters, Macquel Chase (29) and Gabrielle Slate (27), with his first wife Racquel Chiappini. His daughters will forever be grateful for the many lessons he taught them, especially his faith in his Heavenly Father and Savior. He always taught them to have faith in the Lord and helped them to know that He is involved in every aspect of their lives. His consistent faith that his Savior knew him and would carry him through the trials of his cancer diagnosis will remain a strong testimony to his family.
In 2009, Ryan’s position with Hill Air Force Base took him to England, where he worked at RAF Mildenhall for five years. During this time, he developed a deep love for travel and history, exploring numerous countries across Europe. He shared these experiences with his two oldest daughters, instilling in them the same curiosity and appreciation for the world. He loved watching his daughters participate in their sports teams and always took the opportunity to travel to away games to support them.
While living in England, Ryan met his wife, Gemma Sue Munns. The two were married on March 3, 2017, in King’s Lynn, United Kingdom. They were each other’s best friends and their ability to laugh and have fun together even during uncertain times was a strength of theirs. Together they built a beautiful life and welcomed two beautiful daughters, Maria Beau (7) and Blakely Belle (5), while living in Bassilly, Belgium where he had accepted a position on Chievres Air Base. He loved his time there, embracing the culture, forming lasting friendships with neighbors, and continuing to explore new places. Belgium became another place he was proud to call home.
After living overseas for several years, Ryan and Gemma decided it was time to be back in Utah with his family. A decision that later became a blessing as he was able to receive excellent care at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. His oldest daughters were excited to have their dad and little sisters close; Ryan had 4 grandchildren, Eden Chase (5), Ava Slate (4), Benson Chase (3), and Ridge Slate (10 months) who he adored and enjoyed spending time with. They went on many camping trips as a family during the summers and Ryan loved watching his young daughters play with their nieces and nephews.
There are many attributes that Ryan will be remembered for by his family and those who knew him well. He had a somewhat “crooked” smile that could light up a room and a laugh that you couldn’t help joining in with. He had a great sense of humor that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Ryan appreciated various genres of music, which his daughters did not always enjoy when they were younger. His favorites ranged from Jon Denver to 80’s bands like Erasure and Depeche Mode to classical music conducted by Andre Rieu. Ryan’s kindness, calm demeanor, and ability to make those around him feel important are only some of the qualities his loved ones will remember him for. Although Ryan’s life was cut short, it was full and he accomplished so much. We are heartbroken that he is no longer here, but we know he is with his Father in Heaven and has been reunited with his dad.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Gemma Sue Tatton; his children Macquel (Dillon) Chase, Gabrielle (Trevor) Slate, Maria Beau Tatton, Blakely Belle Tatton; his 4 grandchildren Eden, Benson, Ava, and Ridge; his mother Kathy Tatton; his siblings Rory (Michelle) Tatton, Kristin (Brent) Harman, Randon (Toni) Tatton, Rhett (Andrea) Tatton, Rustin (Challise) Tatton, Royce (Lauren) Tatton, and Kara (Aaron) Gold; and many nieces and nephews.
Ryan was preceded in death by his father, Leland Roy Tatton.
