Ruth May Johnson Barton
April 10, 1921 ~ June 10, 2016
OGDEN – Though the loss of our 95 years old beloved mother and grandma has rendered us heart-broken: a joyous reunion has taken place. A loving Heavenly Father, eternal companion, parents, siblings, and many friends and family welcomed her home on Friday, June 10, 2016.
Ruth was born to John Johnson and Idella Martin Johnson on April 10, 1921 in Wilson Lane, UT. She loved her small community and was raised in the home her father built in 1909. Her golden childhood was filled with laughter, love, hard-work, faith and home-cooked meals. She loved school, and participated in many extra-curricular activities. It was no surprise that her wit and charm earned her several starring roles in the school’s plays and operettas. Ruth was smart and quick to make friends. She was elected Student Body President in ninth grade and graduated from Weber High School in 1939.
Ruth married Don Amidan and had three sons. She later married John Barton, a partnership of 49 years, in the Logan LDS Temple on May 28, 1951. They lived in Kanesville, UT for 20 years and later made their home in Ogden. Ruth worked at Hill Air Force Base, the Continental Bakery, Woolworths, JC Penney, and retired after 20 years of service from IRS. However, the most remarkable work was done within the walls of her loving home. She was the mother of six children, 26 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren with three more on the way, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth loved to cook and most days you could find her with an apron, warm smile, and a hot meal. Her hospitality was heart-felt and her passion for the kitchen fed the mouths of countless guests. Ruth and John raised a bountiful garden. She enjoyed canning the harvest and sharing their crops. She loved to read, quilt, and crochet. She enjoyed music and spent many hours at the piano and organ.
Ruth was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the presidency of the Relief Society, Primary, and taught Sunday School. Her genuine Christ-like love was an example to all who knew and served with her.
Ruth was the recipient of true compassion, tireless service, and tender care from the skilled nursing and assisted living centers where she resided. It was evident that all who served her; loved her as she in return genuinely loved and appreciated them. Her final months were spent at Seasons Assisted Living. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the exceptional care, outstanding love and compassion rendered by Jacqui Ball and staff to our Mom and Grandmother. Appreciation is also extended to Brandi and staff at Hearts for Hospice.
Survived by her six children, Michael (Sherae) Amidan, Garry (Pat) Amidan, Ronald (Bonnie) Amidan, Karl Barton, Susan (Richard) Howe, and Sandra (Robert) Price; a special stepdaughter and family, Alice (Alan) Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Barton; her parents and siblings, Sarah, Artell, Grace, Maxine, Martin, Ray, and Earl; a son-in-law, Craig Johns, and two great-grandchildren.
Our love for you will forever by in our hearts.
