Royce Nielsen

On Sunday, September 26, 2021, Royce Nielsen slipped peacefully through the veil into the arms of his lovely Erma and many loved ones who were anxiously waiting.

Dad was born in Emery, Utah, on May 13, 1924, to Niels Peter Nielsen and Ella May Burr.  He was the eleventh of fourteen children, one of which was his identical twin, and best friend, Rawlin.

He grew up on a farm where they all  worked hard to put food on the table for sixteen people.  He talked about how difficult times were, but as kids they didn’t know they were poor.   He said, “we just had fun in-between doing our chores”.  He always had a positive attitude.

After high school dad and Rawlin became interested in becoming machinists after talking with a friend.  They were able to obtain a government grant and attend a technical school in Logan.  After graduation they were able to get a job at Hill AFB as machinists.  During WWII they were both drafted and went to Europe.   Their job was to repair the planes as they came from the front.   After dad returned home from the war, he continued his occupation as a machinist at HAFB.  He eventually owned his own business.

In earlier years, while we were growing up, dad enjoyed watercolor painting.  While traveling on family vacations, he would stop along the way taking pictures of the beautiful scenery and then paint them.  Many of his paintings adorned the walls of our home.  Because of his talent in painting, he was a merit badge counselor in art for the scouting program in our ward.

Dad and Mom enjoyed serving in the Bountiful temple for many years together.  He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and testified often to his family.

Royce is survived by his children Patricia Hess (Rod), Donna Carlson (Keith), Ann Robison (Greg), Shelly Fenner, Cynthia Nielsen, and sister-in-law Karma Albrechtsen.  Royce has 8 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sweet wife Erma, his son Larry, his grandsons Robert and Lance Hess, his parents and siblings Nelda Davenport, Lionel Nielsen, Darrel Nielsen, Elwood Nielsen, Norma Christensen, Ferris Nielsen, Dwight Nielsen, Van Nielsen, Weldon Nielsen, Eldon Nielsen, Rawlin Nielsen, Gale Nielsen, and Marian Broadrick.
