Rosalie Wenkel

July 4, 1942 — March 5, 2023

Rosalie Wenkel, 80, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Chavas County, New Mexico, on July 4, 1942, to Raymond Edmond and Dema Loreda Herrington Krukenmeier. The family moved to Ignacio, Colorado when Rosalie was three years old.

She was a devout member of the Catholic Church. She married John Irving Wenkel on August 30, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rosalie and John enjoyed camping and traveling together. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage until John’s passing on December 3, 2022.

Rosalie was a talented seamstress and worked at Utah Tailoring Mills and later at Marie’s Alterations. She also used her talent privately to help others for many years.

She loved canning and canned everything from grape juice to apple pie filling. She loved to make everyone’s favorite pie for their birthday. Rosalie always wanted to ride the Silverton Durango Railroad and she was able to ride it with her daughter Joell on her 80th birthday.

Rosalie is survived by her son, Kevin J. Wenkel and his wife Julie; daughter, Joell M. Coker; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Nina Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; and her sister, Eleanor Keith.
